Alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria)
alkanet powder is infused in a light-coloured oil first in either a cold infusion for 4-6 weeks or hot infusion over a low heat for several hours.
This process extracts the powder's red and purple hues. After straining use the infused oil in your soap recipe.
Colours after cure may vary from reddish-purple to blue-gray or mauve based on the oil, infusion strength and infusion method used.
(Added to lye water the final colour will be brown.)
Natural soap colurant powders and the final soap product sould be kept out of direct sunlight as natural colours fade quickly when exposed to direct sunlight.
